Queens International 2018: Volumes followed in the tradition of highlighting cultural forms, practices, values, and shared understandings in Queens-based communities. Partnering for the first time with the Queens Public Library, Volumes challenged the idea of the unmoving, static library or museum, addressing the depths of plurality and materiality within these spaces. This catalogue includes edited statements constructed from interviews with the Queens-based artists, including for the first time artists who have participated in earlier versions of the Queens International exhibitions. Artists’ works in the exhibit responded to sites throughout the Queens Museum and select Queens Library branches. Using redemptive historical archives, artists reconsidered histories and policies through abstraction and interpretation.
