The center image features Maasai warriors alongside Big Tim the elephant, Africa’s last and largest tusker who died in 2019 of natural causes. As poachers killed Tim’s mother, the Maasai honored his mother by taking every step to protect Big Tim from poachers. Over the years, not only did they share the same land with Tim, they grew to love him. The outer circles of Maasai beadwork represents the whole of Maasai culture embodying beauty, strength, tradition, marriage, marital status, warriorhood, age, social status and their deep devotion and love for their environment. For the Maasai people, the beadwork, created solely by the Maasai women, capture their entire world.
A portion of the Maasai Heritage proceeds will go to My Chosen Vessel, currently building a women’s empowerment center within steps of Amboseli National Park, that will provide these women with a pathway to economic empowerment while helping to preserve the Maasai tradition of beadwork, which dates back thousands of years.
