Elephant females live together with their young in tight-knit family groups led by a warrior and protector matriarch. Males may come and go, but females always stick together and work cooperatively. They know instinctively that creating a tight herd will make them and each succeeding generation stronger.
Tembo’s elephant print represents this family relationship–the matriarch in the center surrounded by her female herd. Along the border are lone elephants representing the males. All knitted together with patterning inspired by African mud cloth.
A portion of the “Elephant Family” scarf proceeds will go to Akashinga, an all-female anti-poaching unit in Zimbabwe that is revolutionizing the way elephants are protected.
