Once upon 1972, there was a group of 20 or so friends in a little village called Moulin Roty, searching for a common project that will provide both work and a certain way of life. The group decides to purchase an old mill that has fallen into ruins. They renovate the mill bit by bit so that their families can move in and live there together as a commune.
The workshop they have established started off with crafts and things and toys. When a fire destroyed the entire workshop in 1988, they moved to Nort sur Erdre, 15 kilometres away and decided to begin from scratch. They have grown some more since then and became a public limited company but kept their status as a cooperative.
Today, Moulin Roty is known for its beautifully designed soft toys - all with the old European nostalgia, cool French style and a cheeky attitude.
